Shaping the Future of Health Prioritization : Strategies for sustainable solutions
The world is continuously disrupted. Innovations are rapidly emerging. A major public health threat has just passed, and many more are around the corner. Climate change, geopolitical issues, low economic growth, financial constraints, and healthcare innovation challenge are only few examples of multi-crisis the world is facing, particularly in countries with resource constraints.
A comprehensive, holistic approach to health prioritization is therefore warranted to ensure resilience and sustainable solutions for the better health for all. This conference will explore how health prioritization can look like going forward for health systems and beyond to grow strong and be able to withstand challenges and thrive amidst future threats
Conference Sub-Themes
The power of possibility:
Prioritizing healthcare’s emerging innovations
a. Accelerating priority setting:
harnessing early HTA
- This sub-theme will cover all methods used to inform industry and other stakeholders about the potential value of new medical products in development, including methods to quantify and manage uncertainty.
- Keywords: early HTA, early phase HTA (eHTA), early stage HTA, pre-market assessment
b. Next-level prioritization:
unlocking the potential of AI and RWE
- This sub-theme will cover various roles of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Real-World Evidence (RWE) in priority setting for health including predictive modelling, decision support, resource allocation, and challenges and ethical considerations on using AI and RWE.
- Keywords: real-world evidence (RWE), real-world data (RWD), big data, electronic health records
Seeing the whole picture:
taking a holistic view of healthcare prioritization
a. Intersectionality in health: how do multiple determinants affect priority settings, and how it should be managed?
- This thought-provoking sub-theme will delve into various determinants that shape priority setting in health, namely, how geopolitics, commercial interests, social dynamics, economics, culture, and ethics impact resource management and allocation in health programs around the world. Join us to learn about legal considerations and the imperative of decolonizing global health to foster equity and enhance health outcomes.
- Keywords: geopolitical determinants, commercial determinants, social determinants, legal consideration, decolonizing global health
b. From principle to practice: ethical and equitable health priority setting
- This sub-theme explores practical implementation of ethical and equitable principles in health priority settings. Discover mechanisms to incorporate these considerations into policies and practices. Embrace inclusivity, social justice, and well-being for diverse groups, including LGBTQIA+, youth, migrant workers, indigenous people, and individuals with disabilities, with success stories, policy tools, and participatory approaches.
- Keywords: equitable access, health equity, ECEA, DCEA, feasibility analysis, human rights, social justice, deliberative engagement.
Priority-setting during the crises:
preparing for future health threats
a. Greening our health: prioritizing environmental sustainability
- This sub-theme will cover the significant environmental implications of health technologies, including greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs), pollution, resource depletion, and waste generation. It emphasizes the importance of integrating environmental impact data alongside clinical and cost outcomes to enable sustainable healthcare decision-making and optimize health system practices.
- Keywords: greenhouse gas emissions, environmental impact, climate change, pollution, resource depletion, waste generation
b. Health amidst crisis: prioritizing care in emergencies
- This sub-theme will explore the extensive impact of wars, conflicts, disasters, and pandemics on health systems, focusing on health priority setting. It will examine the distinctive challenges and opportunities, and drawing lessons learned from the past crises. Furthermore, it will analyze the ethical and equity considerations of health priority setting during crises.
- Keywords: war, conflicts, pandemic, natural disaster, crises
